We will cover the gadgets from the past, review the technology scientists use today and end with the rich potential for future gizmos. Sitka WhaleFest’s main goal is to bring current marine research to you and make it fun. We hope you will join us this year in the celebration of our marine life at Sitka WhaleFest!

Whale Fest Kodiak

A Migration Celebration!

Whale Fest Kodiak April 18 - April 28, 2014

Whale Fest Kodiak April 18 – April 28, 2014

Whale Fest Kodiak celebrates the return of Eastern Pacific Gray Whales to Alaskan waters. Here on scenic Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska, we are privileged to have nearly all of this population pass by on their journey north – the longest migration route of any mammal on earth. Some of these gray whales remain here all summer to feed before returning south. This celebration spreads out to all species of whales and other marine mammals and birds.

Whale Fest Kodiak 2014, will mark the 18th year that the festival has been running. It is not only anticipated by locals, but also attracts Eco-tourists who travel to Kodiak to take part in the festivities. Whale Fest events include scientific forums, harbor tours, marine mammal-inspired music, traditional Native art and archaeology, various children’s programs, and guided hikes out at Narrow Cape near Ugak Bay. This is the only area in Alaska where you can stand on ground and watch hundreds of whales go by. Most of our programs are led by volunteers and are available at no charge.

Whale Fest Kodiak is April 18 -28, 2014
